Management strategies for mangrove conservation in Brazil, including designation and management of protected areas, and other protection instruments should therefore consider regional social-ecological peculiarities. The present research aims to formulate a participatory management strategy to conserve mangrove forests in the Carey Island, Malaysia. Lessons and strategies obtained were used to develop a mangrove rehabilitation framework/guideline. In this paper, an overview of these management strategies has been provided in order to identify the main legal and management challenges.
